Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research is concerned with the extent to which various kinds of feedback affect attitudes and behaviour with respect to energy consumption. Two different kinds of feedback will be assessed - that which provides building owners with specific information on their energy use, and feedback where only general information is available. Both situations will be monitored and the effects on energy consumption in a range of building types measured. A strategy for raising general awareness of energy issues within an urban population will also be developed and the effects of this on attitudes will be assessed. The project will employ existing multidisciplinary skills in the Schools or Architecture and Building Engineering and Social Science at the University of Bath. A recently developed computer model of the city will be used to map energy use dynamically and previous work on energy monitoring and simulation will be incorporated in the monitoring phase of the project. The results of the study will be generalisable to a wide number of towns and cities in the UK.
