Summary on Grant Application Form |
To develop a new content analysis system, ACAMRIT, for application to Market Research and other social survey research interview transcripts. To collect a 3 million word annotated corpus of spoken English conversational data, part of general conversation and part oriented to specific institutions.Progress:Approximately one million words of general conversation collected by Reflexions have now been processed by the ACAMRIT system, and these are being used to enlarge the lexical resources of the system. Developments in the semantic tagging section of the ACAMRIT system include increased use of lemmatisation, and the automatic marking of noun phrases so that this information can be used during the recognition of semantic idioms. We are currently testing the use of proximity disambiguation of semantic tags, but this is still in the experimental stage. Most progress has been made in the statistics and concordance retrieval package semstat . The character-based interface has been rewritten to make use of X Windows, allowing greater flexibility in the users access to multiple corpus files, multiple concordances, etc.
