Summary on Grant Application Form |
Initially the work will involve the characterisation of the sintering behaviour of the starting powders and modification of their behaviour. Understanding the scientific principles behind this will allow predictable powders to be fabricated. The properties of the individual compositions will be measured and fed into a computer model which will then be used to optimise the layer structures in order to obtain an X7R response. In conjunction with the modelling, a MLMC stack will be fabricated and tested. The tests will include analysis of the electrical and mechanical performance and the monitoring of performance in service conditions. The results will then be analysed using Weibull statistics in order to monitor quality of processing of the ceramics. Characterisation of the ceramic layers, the interfaces and the connectors will be done in order to correlate performance with defects in order to understand the science behind the enhanced performance of the component materials.
