Summary on Grant Application Form
1. To show how spatial data handling facilities can be smoothly integrated into an existing deductive object-oriented database to produce an architecture which provides comprehensive techniques for modelling spatial data in an 00 context, supports flexible access and manipulation via a logic language and includes an imperative data manipulation language for developing computationally intensive applications.2. To develop an efficient implementation of this architecture, demonstrate its applicability and evaluate its performance.Progress:Initial work has focused upon the development of a software architecture which supports both efficient processing of spatial operations and effective extensibility to address changing application requirements [1]. A crucial aspect of such an architecture is support for an efficient and robust collection of spatial data types within the object manager of the database system. Design activity has focused upon the identification of appropriate spatial data types, and upon strategies for the efficient implementation of such types.
