Summary on Grant Application Form |
Both surface and lateral emission occurs of light generated I a.c. thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) devices, the brightness of the latter being greater than the former, because of wave-guiding within the phosphor. However the attenuation limits the lateral emission. An improvement is suggested, supported by initial experiments, to; (a) include a low attenuation region in a laterally emitting TFEL device and (b) minimise coupling of the evanescent wave to absorbing electrodes by use of thicker insulator cladding films.
