Summary on Grant Application Form
Influence analysis plays a vital role in the diagnostic checking phase of all statistical modelling. The proposal is for fundamental methodogical research in this strategic area. Its potential applications therefore extend to all domains of enquiry where statistical models are employed. The proposal has two distinctive features. It brings to influence analysis the power and insight of a number of other areas in which the proposer has experience:multivariate analysis, (differential) geometry, and (convex) optimisation. Specific objectives and sub-objectives involving them are set out in the case for support. Secondly, it involves high level international collaboration in a cost-effective way. Professor Cook is an international authority in the area while his University is a centre of excellence for Xlispstat, used in our prototype software. The research is already under way and, as we illustrate below, is looking very promising.
