Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the research will be to determine the nature of the active sites and the role of the support in the combustion of hydrocarbons on supported Noble metal catalysts. The objectives will be: to prepare Pt and Pd catalysts using acidic, neutral, and basic supports; to determine the extent of metal/support interactions by using a range of physicochemical techniques; to study the mechanism of hydrocarbon activation using fluoromethanes; to use selective poisoning to identify and characterise the active sites.
