Summary on Grant Application Form |
We will conduct research into compact, low cost, infra red image sensor arraysbased on the application of thin film pyroelectric layers to a custom designed integrated silicon substrate. The performance of the sensor, in terms of noise, cross talk, dynamic range, D* and sensitivity, will be evaluated. This will lead to the definition of the minimum pixel dimension for the array and the maximum array size.An optimised array will then be designed and fabricated. The application of the sensor array to scene monitoring will be enhanced by incorporating the infra red sensor array into a hybrid module with a vision sensor. The image data from each sensor will be produced in a form suitable for computer enhancement and interpretation.
