|
Funds are sought for a linked programme of research that will continue the success of the Lancaster EDC in researching and implementing a number of design methodologies for the conceptual design of Mechatronic Systems. They will enable the user to scheme, cost, layout, simulate and optimise a chosen design within the computer, drawing on advice and knowledge held in appropriate databases. They will assist in improving the standards of Engineering Design by allowing investigation of a range of alternative solutions at an early stage in the design process.The programme is divided into 7 closely related projects: i) Knowledge Systems for Conceptual Design, ii) Qualitative Development of Schemes from First Principles, iii) Generic Function and Component Databases, iv) Configuration Layout of Schemes, v) Simulation Support for Mechatronic Product Design, vi) Function Mapping and Multi-Criteria Decision Making, vii) Secretariat and Application of Generic Tools to the Design of Mechatronic Systems.
