Summary on Grant Application Form
Nitrogen solubility in various oxide-, silicate- and fluoride systems will be investigated depending on their composition, temperature and oxygen potentials. On the basis of the experimental data obtained the theoretical equations for nitrogen solubility dependence on the above mentioned parameters will be deduced. The next stage will address the removal of nitrogen from metal melts by slag and flux mixtures. Special attention will be given to the investigation of denitrogenation by combining slag treatment with the alloying of steel with nitride-forming elements such as Ti, Zr, La and Ce. In the final stage the influence of nitrogen content decrease on some properties of steel (for example, toughness and corrosion characteristics) will be studied.
