Summary on Grant Application Form
At present there is considerable interest in the use of DS-CMDA techniques for future mobile radio systems, both in the USA and Europe. A major problem in implementing such systems is the near-far effect and power control. The solution adopted at the moment has been developed by Viterbi and colleagues at Qualcomm Inc., who have the technique patented in terms of IPR etc. At Bristol a novel solution has been developed for overcoming this problem using a decorrelating receiver architecture. This has many fundamental advantaged over the Qualcomm technique. In this project, the implementation of the technique is to be considered, together with performance trade-offs in the fading environment.
