Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed programme of research is to extend the parabolic equation method firstly to the analysis of wave transmission through abrupt dielectric interfaces and subsequently to the analysis of wave transmission through finite-thickness, composite, semi-transparent obstacles situated on a ground plane. The theoretical model will be validated through upscaled frequency measurements on dielectric slabs and simplified down-scaled models of multi-storey buildings whose storeys are separated by metal-reinforced concrete slabs. Furthermore, a measurement programme will be undertaken in order to characterise the electromagnetic properties of some common building materials at millimetric wave frequencies for future sue with the model.
