Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is to be carried out by South Bank University in collaboration with the British Gas Research Centre, Shell Research Ltd. and the Steel Construction Institute, will develop a predictive tool for offshore compartment fires.A commercially available CFD Code, Flow-3D, will be used as the basis of the predicitve tool while more accurate submodels will be developed for gaseous combustion, the behaviour of soot and radiative heat transfer. Both the combustion and soot submodels will be based on the laminar flamelet concept and the opaque characterisitvs of the combustion products will be investigated. The predictive tool will be validated against appropriate experimental data and be applied to offshore compartment fires. The validated predictive tool will also be applied to predict offshore compartment fires.
