Summary on Grant Application Form |
The IRC continues to make progress in fundamental science and enabling technological research. The future programme will concentrate on understanding the basic mechanism of high temperature superconductivity, on the search for new high temperature superconductors, and on the fabrication of thin film devices (including both junction types and microwave applications), long conductors for applications in liquid nitrogen and prototype engineering demonstrations. In so doing, the IRC intends to place a greater emphasis on strategic and applied research, but without undermining the core and quality of the basic research. To achieve this aim, a modest expansion (about 14%) in the current research programme is necessary. At the same time the IRC will continue to provide interdisciplinary training and play an active role as a leading centre of research in high temperature superconductivity both nationally and internationally.
