To observe for the first time the 171Yb solid state nmr spectra of a series of known and novel Yb(II)-containing compounds and thereby develop solid-state 171Yb nmr spectroscopy as an analytic tool for the study of hitherto uncharacterised insoluble or surface-support novel Yb(II)-based catalyst systems.
