Summary on Grant Application Form
The ability to unload passengers quickly is not only important to the efficient day to day operation of aircraft, it is essential in emergency situations resulting from accidents. The aim of this project is to build a computer model designed to simulate the evacuation of large populations of individuals from these environments. The proposed model would predict the trajectories of individuals involved in both ordered and competitive evacuation scenarios. The software will be expert system based, the motion of each individual controlled by the firing of appropriate rules. It is envisaged that the software will also contain individual toxicity models and be coupled to the output of a fire field model. This will enable the model to subject fleeing individuals to the appropriate levels of fire hazards such as heat, smoke and toxic gases. In this way model will track each individual until they exit the enclosure or are overcome and die.
