Summary on Grant Application Form |
Whilst the focus will be on hydraulic systems to complement the projects previously supported by the DHSM Programme, a successful outcome will provide designers with a tool for the systematic comparison of alternative drive systems (mechanical, electro-mechanical, fluid power). An important element of the programme will involve the integration of previous work in Bath, Brunel and Salford into a coherent software package. Technoiques will be developed to allow a designer to specify a system's configuration and input vector to achieve the required output vector of position, velocity, force etc. This will progress in parallel with work on axiomatic design techniques. The use of neural networks will be explored as an approach to solve the inherent inverse dynamic problem for non-linear systems which is central to the project. The development robust control strategies will be a core activity. Selected laboratory rigs will be used to assess the applicability of the design tools.
