Summary on Grant Application Form
Project will commence with a study to establish target motor parameters, for a range of frame sizes, to meet the performance specifications. The study will utilise the dynamic models development at Aston under two other DHSM LINK Programmes. Prototype motors will be constructed with both trapezoidal and sine wave windings. These motors will carry Stator search-coil and rotor hall-probe arrays for dynamic measurement of airgap flux patterns. Tests will be conducted using high bandwidth dynamometers, programmed to carry out generic duty cycles. Shaft torque will be measured dynamically and airgap torque deduced from calculations using experimental airgap field data. The results of this part of the programme will define design date for Beta prototype motors and will, at the same time, generate the optimum load angle strategy for the range of Eurotherm drives which are intended to be the principal drive supply for these motors. The performance of the Beta prototypes will be verified on the Aston facility.
