|
BSI-DISC Technical Committee IST/37 comprises companies and university research groups co-ordinating the UK input into the international committee ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29. An important part of the programme is concerned with very low bit-rate audio-visual coding, informally referred to as MPEG-4. The applicants, through the Image and Signal Processing Research Group and Warwick, are pursuing research in motion estimation for low bit-rate image coding, work which is directly relevant to the MPEG-4 programme.The support requested in this proposal will enable the applicants to participate in the activities of the BSI/DISC Technical Committee, to suggest, develop and evaluate new techniques for coding moving image sequences, and to contribute to the UK involvement in the ISO/IEC international standardisation process.
