Summary on Grant Application Form
The research programme aims to characterise electronic converters and drives using experimental and numerical techniques and to develop models which can be used to study the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of such equipment. The main functional blocks of such equipment will be characterised together with their interconnections and relevant electromagnetic interactions which affect emission and susceptibility. The understanding gained from these studies, the characterisation techniques and equivalent circuits will be incorporated into a predictive computer-based tool which can assist in achieving EMC. The main units to be studied are converteres and SMPS, power filters, motors, housings and inter-connects, and complete systems comprising all or some of the above. Comprehensive experimental and numerical studies of complete systems will provide an understanding of EMC in the electronic converter and drive environment and validated computer-based tools.
