Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is an application for the continued participation of the University of Glasgow, within a programme of research co-ordinated under the auspices of the SCIOS consortium. The proposal seeks to build on the momentum of the diffractive optics and III-V MBE growth and array fabrication programmes after notable successes over the past 24 months. [InGa]As MQE S-SEED arrays of increasing complexity and diffaractive optical elements requiring multi-level processing with sub-micron features and alignment accuracy will be fabricated for incorporating into SCIOS demonstrators. Flip-chip bonding to custom designed Si CMOS fabricated by the ASM foundry will be exploited jointly with the partners to increase pixel smartness. The research emphasis in MBE growth and RIE will be in securing answers to material and technological issues, centred on a wavelength 1047nm,which are of direct relevance to and which will advance the demonstrator objectives for the next two years. An expansion of activities into a targeted two year programme on flared optical power amplifiers for 850nm is proposed and limited work on the growth and fabrication of phase modulators based on Fabry-Perot cavities with potential as dynamic reconfigureable interconnects is proposed.
