Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal relates to the contribution to be made by the University of Leeds to a Link EEM Programme. The objectives of the LINK programme are: to develop piezoelectric ceramic material with improved shear mode activity; to develop a three-layer composite structure (laminate) specifically for use in ink-jet printer heads; to improve the performance of piezoceramics tor use in thickness and transverse modes.Within this overall scope, the University is to carry out the following functions: to establish a rational basis for the variation of shear mode activity with composition in substituted PZT compositions; to investigate correlations between the magnitudes of the three independent piezoelectric coefficients in poled ceramics, d31, d33, d15, specifically with regard to substituted PZT systems; to investigate the variation of surface and bulk resistivity in candidate ceramic electrode materials; to establish the temperature coefficients of expansion of the piezoelectric and electrode materials studied
