Summary on Grant Application Form |
LEDs based on In(AsSb) strained-layer technology can provide modest powers at 4.2 micron wavelengths. The research programme will be directed to designing and fabricating higher power devices, particularly by the development of device arrays and through wafer contacting geometries. This work is driven by the need for improved IR sources for gas monitoring applications. A second activity will be the development of 3.3 micron LEDs again using MBE growth techniques. These devices will be characterised using photoluminescence, X-ray diffraction, magneto-absorption and electro-luminescence spectroscopies.
