Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed work is directed to the advancement of the emerging area of energy conversion via Solid Polymer Fuel Cells (SPFCs). It has direct commercial relevance in that SPFCs are rapidly aproaching the stage where industrial bodies will have to make an informed decision about the future investment strategy, including cost versus possible returns. In order to do this, information of materials, manufacturing methods and operational strategies. The research outlined here, for the formulation and experimental validation of computation methods for design optimisation and scale-up, will in part fulfil this need. The overall objective is to develop a computer based tool which will assist in improving design methodology, materials utilisation and operational efficiency. The resulting models and code will be of use to SPFC developers worldwide.
