The crystal and nanometric structures of PbZrzTi1-x03 (PZT) and related compounds will be studied using X-ray diffraction and TEM paying particular attention to compositional variation and disorder in the oxygen framework. The results will be used to understand the relationship between these structures and the technologically useful physical properties (piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity and optical).
