Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research has two main components which will be closely integrated with each other and with related activities at Rolls-Royce PLC. The first component is a calculation method based on the numerical solution of conservation equations in differential form and the main contributions will be to be the models of scalar and liquid-fuel transport. Both models will be improved in relation to experiments performed with a can and an annular combustor and including measurements of scalar fluxes with gaseous fuel and droplet characteristics with liquid fuel. The specific purpose is to improive the two models and the general purpose to provide a method for the calculation fo the flow characteristics of the flows within gas turbine combustors and thereby improve the present design method.
