Summary on Grant Application Form |
Electrical steel/insulator layered thick strips and other non-layered materials will be produced using a rotating cryostat which has recently been demonstrated to have a unique potential for producing novel magnetic steel structures for use as electromagnetic cores. A range of compositions and sizes (strips and closed magnetic circuits) will be produced. Magnetisation characteristics, domain structures and losses will be evaluated together with physical and structural properties. The method will be assessed both as an aid for investigating magnetic properties of novel materials and as a potential material production technique in its own right.
