Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is aimed to enhance and build upon our existing strengths in in-process rheometry for polymer melts, by novel use of infra-red (IR) and ultrasound techniques. Fast response IR temperature measurements, signal conditioned for increased resolution and of tuned wavelength, will complement melt pressure measurements and novel high temperature ultrasound evaluation of flow rate to provide accurate in-process rheology and PVT data in an injection nozzle. Ultrasound in the mould cavity will provide detection of melt front location and polymer phase change, for correlation with dynamic compression effects in the injection nozzle and flow modelling.
