Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme aims to produce hard corrosion resistant coatings by the use of a High Velocity Oxy-Fuel thermal spray system. Novel nickel-chromium based powders containing metalloid elements (B, Si, C) will be the feedstock materials for the coatings. Optimum conditions for the formation of amorphous and microcrystalline phases with minimum oxide contents will be investigated. A fundamental examination of the relationship between processing conditions and microstructure will be a major part of this project. Preliminary property evaluations will be undertaken.
