Summary on Grant Application Form |
Exisiting water quality data and epidemiological models will be linked to provide quantified estimates of disease burden attributable to recreation in UK coastal waters. A number of urban waste water treatment schemes will be examined in detail to provide predictions of water quality improvement from the computer models employed in scheme design. These water quality data will then be used to estimate 'health gain' from the epidemiological models developed by the research team. The 'benefit' of water quality improvement will be assessed against the costs of scheme implementation and alternative expenditure on preventative medicine.
