Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research will be based on a systematic study of relationships between composition of the precursor materials, processing conditions used in the Osciblend compounding injection process, and the ceramic core physical properties. Polymeric binder systems will be devised to have, in combination with ceramic powders, the appropriate rheological and pyrolysis properties for use in injection moulding. The results will be used to optimise the compounding, the moulding processes, the binder removal and preferred sintering profiles, and the physical properties of cores. This will be followed by pre-production casting trials and full assessment by Rolls Royce, with the overall objective of producing a route for the cost effective production of high integrity porous cores for investment casting.
