Magnetic Impedance Tomography (MIT) is a new imaging technique for producing images of the distribution of electrical conductivity within the human body. An alternating electric current at one of several possible frequencies is passed through the body and the distribution of the resultant magnetic field around the body determined using search coil detectors. The distribution of current within the body is computed from the magnetic field data and the conductivity distribution for the current distribution. The conductivity distribution, both as a function of time and frequency, can be used in clinical diagnosis. This project will develop a working Magnetic Impedance Tomography system.
