The aim of the project is to synthesise novel PDA's generated from diacetylenes containing selected heteroaryl groups in the side chains; particular attention will be paid to N-heterocycles that can be easily quaternised, to those of DNA bases, and to chelating ligands. New ionomeric and metallated PDA's will be generated and the third order nonlinearity of selected materials will be quantitatively determined.
