|
The literature claims that variations in TQM reflect the commitment of middle managers, who resist TQM because of a fear of a loss of power. However, TQM shows many inconsistencies, in seeking to culture change yet focusing on efficiency and cost reduction. In practice these inconsistencies are cascaded down to middle managers who are required to operationalise conflicting agendas. The research will investigate this interpretation by exploring the impact of TQM on middle managers at four sites of the Corrugated Division of Bowater plc. The proposed research will address gaps in the literature by providing a better understanding of the impact of TQM upon managers and ambiguities within its implementation.
