Summary on Grant Application Form
The project sets out to investigate the cost-benefits of installing such storage on individual properties or between groups of properties, either at construction stage or retrofitted. The perceived benefits or lack thereof of such a strategy will be investigated as it affects five target groups - Developers, Water and Sewerage Utilities, the natural environment (ie NRA), Local/Land Drainage Authorities and householders. The strategy might reduce demand upon water resources; reduce peak daily water demands; reduce costs of flood defence works and improve natural habitats; modify costs of water services to householders and provide water for re-use for toilet flushing, external uses, etc. The possible scale and value of these benefits on the water environment and on the target groups will be evaluated, in order to better inform decision making on policies and practices in future urban drainage design for sustainable development.
