Summary on Grant Application Form
The major feature of the ptoject is to prepare and study novel UV absorbing contact lenses. We will utilise a chromophore of known high extinction coefficient in the region of the spectrum which is responsible for cataract formations, ie the UVA. A major feature of the project will be the synthesis of suitable polymerisation absorbers based on aryl oxazoles. The suitability of these materials in contact lens formulations and manufacturing processes will be assessed by the industrial collaborators. The photophysical properties of the hydrogen materials will be examined in collaboration with the photophysicals froup at Lancaster.
