Summary on Grant Application Form |
Supercritical fluids offer a novel, but little studied approach to clean synthesis of organic compounds. The aim of the proposed research is to explore the capabilities of supercritical fluids in particular carbon dioxide, to act as solvent media in catalysed reactions. The kinetics of hydrogenation reactions of various types of organic functional groups will be studied experimentally, and the reaction kinetics and transport processes will be modelled in order to be able to design a whole process. Investigation of organic hydrogenation reactions of particular importance to industry will be included in the latter stages of the research, and kinetic data on selective oxidation and acid/base catalysis will also be obtained.
