Summary on Grant Application Form |
Current microscopic modelling suffers from two major problems that are believed to be soluble through the use of a fuzzy decision making rule base: i) models are generally based on deterministic algorithms, containing no reflection of driver perception and error; ii) the microscopic data required for the exact calibration of current models is unavailable leading to the use of best guess estimates. It is the intent of this project to produce a fuzzy microscopic motorway model, based on currently modelled behavioural traits and additional behaviour based on observational evidence from video databases within TRG. Verification of the rule base used will be undertaken through both traditional validation methods, and the calibration of the definitions and membership functions used in the rule base from simple lab experiments using linguistically identified features. On calibration the model will be used to investigate the detiale deffects of ATT devices, from the relatively simple and straightforward that may see implementation within the next few years, such as on line speed control, to the more advanced such as collision avoidance and intelligent cruise control.
