Summary on Grant Application Form
Screen printing is an extremely versatile through the image printing system. The project focuses on the screen used to carry the image, addressing the possibilities for both a disposable and a digitally programmable device. The screen traditionally comprises two components. A woven mesh is stretched over a frame to provide residual tension which also regulated the weight of ink deposited. On the mesh is laid a photographically exposed stencil which provides the image. The first thrust of the program will be to develop a disposable substitute for the current mesh system which will allow existing stencil technology to be used. The substrate material may either be cast or machined from a continuous sheet. The second aim is to produce the screen from a single material with the required image directly machined on to it.
