Summary on Grant Application Form |
Ultrafast, time resolved measurement will prove a comprehensive understanding of the high speed responses which determine the operational characteristic of 1.55mm, MQW modulators and saturable absorbers in the form of materials, nonlinear Bragg reflectors and micro-cavity etalons with and without applied electric fields. The work will be carried out in collaboration with laboratories involved in both device and systems development. Devices include fast saturable absorbers with UCL/Sheffield/ORC, passive saturable mirrors with built-in reflection stacks with Hughes Research Lab and active, quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE), micro-cavities with the Semiconductor IRC/Oxford. The fundamental mechanisms will be identified and devices optimised via feedback to our collaborators.
