Summary on Grant Application Form |
Calcium is added to lead to remove bismuth and to imporve the properties of electrode in the lead acide battery. This is an inefficient process which gives rise to considerable oxidation of the expensive calcium metal. This proposal is concerned with the in-situ electrochemical synthesis of calcium carbonate which is dissolved in a fused salt. As well as financial savings, less oxidation will occur, the working conditions will be improved and a higher quality product will be produced.
