Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will exploit the continued advance in computing power to the benefit of research into polymeric materials. The project brings together three sectors of UK endeavour: the mature polymer producing and processing industry - one of our country's strengths; the emergent polymer software business - small, dynamic with 35% of global markets at the moment; and two centres of UK academic excellence in polymer science and technology which have played a pioneering role in computational modelling. It aims to create wealth through boosting competitive advantage of British companies and generating new software products, and it also contains units which are relevant to health and quality of life. A lasting legacy of the project will be a new working relationship between the three sectors. The modelling will focus on the meso length scales intermediate between our current molecular knowledge and macroscopic scale of polymer service and processing.
