Summary on Grant Application Form
Th eproject combines a major experimental programme and an integrated computational study. Its purpose is to study the combustion behaviour of enclosure linings in real enclosure fire conditions and the major parameters which influence such behaviours. In particular it will evaluate in a systematic manner the effectd of fire location, ventilation, ignition behaviours under time dependant radiant and conventce heat transfer and measurements of full flame heat tranfser. CFD modelling will be used to characterise the fire enclosure with combusting linings, in end use conditions, in order to develop a medium scale rototype experimental rig, capable of replicating the large scale thermal environment. The medium scale rig will be used to develop an accurate numerical model of simulated room fire scenarios, the output of which will be used in fire mordelling, risk assessment and material classification related to realistic hazard analysis.
