Because of nontrivial Coulomb interactions, the semiconductor Bloch equations are in the difficulty class of three dimensional hydrodynamic turbulence. We plan to explore the validity of various simplifications that are usually made and to attempt to exploit the properties of heretofore overlooked equilibrium distributions of the collision intervals in order to improve the efficiency in semiconductor lasers. We also will look at the competition between nonlinearity and randomness and the nature of the output of these devices.
