|
Current road accident database systems provide incomplete information and are prone to error. The data is incomplete since road network elements only exist in the database once an accident has occurred on them. There is no record, therefore, of the sites with zero accidents which is essential for the analysis of high risk sites. Secondly, the data does not contain all the attributes required for the effective design of accident remedial schemes. The data is prone to error due to flawed design of local authority databases, coding errors and misinterpretation of accident report forms. This research seeks to address these problems by developing an object-orientated database which contains a separate definition of the road network and the attributes required for the effective design of accident remedial schemes. Data collection methods will be improved by designing a police accident report form which is less prone to misinterpretation and contains the new attributes.
