Summary on Grant Application Form |
The brightness of a thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) device is proportional to the product of the density of luminescent centres and electron charge. Proposed is the use of laser annealing/RTA to enhance the former and introduction of charge-reservoirs into the device to increase the latter. A consequence of the improvement is the expectation of blue emission to provide full colour head-mounted displays. Chosen as the blue phosphor in ZnS:TmF, because of compatibility with ZnS:Mn which is responsible for red and green emission. In a final device ion-implantation will be used for doping.
