Summary on Grant Application Form |
a-Diimine copper (I) complexes will be prepared and fully characterised from diazabutabiene and 2-pyridinecabaldehydes. These ligands offer great versatility with regards both electronic and steric requirements at the Cu centre. These complexes will be examined for use in atom transfer living free radical polymerisation. Structural considerations from XRD of both ligands and complexes will be correlated with polymerisation activity in an attempt to understand the mechanism of this system and thus optimise its application. Cyclic voltametry will be used to investigate the influence of subtle effects on the ligands on the Cu (I)/Cu(II) redox position.
