Summary on Grant Application Form
Macroporous electrodes are currently used in a variety of devices (fuel cells, batteries, sensors). In general, the performance of a device scales as the area of the electrode/electrolyte interface. Substantial improvements can be expected where the electroactive material is mesoporous and has a regular nanostructure. The aim of the research is to conduct a systematic and comprehensive investigation of the use of electrodeposition from lyotropic liquid crystalline phases as a route to metal, metal oxide, and conducting polymer electrodes having well-defined nanostructures and mesoporosity.
