Summary on Grant Application Form |
The University of Surrey proposed to become a spoke site for the implementation of the Image Understanding Environment (IUE). In order to evaluate the usefulness of the IUE we propose to implement one or more packages in areas where we have particular expertise and a solid track record. The program will commence with an evaluation phase where we will look at the relevant functionability available from the IUE. There will then be a design phase where the task structure will be decided based on the IUE design philosophy. This will be followed by an implementation phase. After implementation the task will be benchmarked against existing code. Finally the task will be documented and released into the public domain. A paper will be compiled describing the task and its implementation in the IUE, and a report with our evaluation of the IUE itself will be published. During the 3 year project we will also provide training and support for the IUE within the group. We propose to perform one of three possible tasks. They are surface registration and fusion, a generalised Hough transform and a battery of texture descriptors.
