Summary on Grant Application Form
We intend to produce an adsorbent with a clearly defined porosity within which we can control the chemistry and distribution of polar adsorption sites (chemisorbed oxygen and nitrogen functionalities). Using a range of probe molecules we will then investigate adsorption interactions at these specific sites in order to identify the optimal type of surface/pore wall chemistry for the removal of toxic or unwanted species from solution (these will include phenolic, organo-phosphate and chloro, floro compounds with a high environmental impact).
